The block
The Eighth King of Rome is located just some thousand steps from the Colosseum, near “Pigneto”, one of the most picturesque corners of Rome, a rainbow coloured “city island” just outside the ancient walls of the city heart, bounded by "Prenestina", "Old Casilina" and the railway. The neighbourhood may remind you of "Isola" in Milan, Salvador de Bahia, Belleville, Naples, Vintmiles, Bangladesh, Jerez de la Frontera, the East Village, Barceloneta … even Rome. Romans live here, together with a "milanese" and many people from Sri Lanka. It’s quite common to see old ladies sitting in front of drugstores, Ceylon people playing dice, transexuals shopping, old men playing chess and little kids playing football outside the two-storey houses. Every day a picturesque open air market gives some colour to the streets. Here the famous soap opera “Casa Pigneto” has its locations.
